Every one of Macao's memories. None of his place in the world. And one desire that has outlasted a curse, a master, and a century: kill the man he was copied from.
A cursed mirror, born as a living duplicate of Macao
Spawned from a cursed mirror during Macao's hunt through Lilith's lair, Lathian carries every one of Macao's memories and skills up to the point of his creation, without ever having lived a single one of them himself, a living reflection. His driving desire: to kill the original, Macao.
He followed Macao out of Lilith's antechamber, intending to hunt down the original. But Macao managed to get away. At that time, he, Macao, was just too spent to be able to defeat the mirror's duplicate. Nor could he bring himself to kill himself, regardless of the form.
The duplicate, still a version of Macao, headed to the home Macao had built, deep in the Hanter Forest south of Vathia. He set up what he thought would be a trap. The burning need to kill the original haunted his every thought, slowly driving him insane. Then the unspeakable happened…
A very powerful vampire from Vathia had been tracking Macao for years, seeing how he was systematically slaying powerful outsiders who were encroaching on the world. He had become something of a legend, and a fear for the powerful undead families in Vathia. Would he turn to them next? But even more, this vampire had a desire to turn Macao, and not knowing the current version inhabiting the home was a duplicate, he set a very elaborate trap. He used all his resources, his entire vampire platoon, to subdue the duplicate, and turn him.
As the vampiric curse flowed through him, and his body died, to be reborn a vampire, so powerful had he become, his mental programming to kill the original flared up inside him again, but the curse was just a bit stronger. He was now enthralled to his new master. His new master renaming him “Lathian.”
Lathian, now torn between two compulsions, his mind began to crack, his will folded and broke, and he became, for a while, one of the worst bloodthirsty vampires in the world. His hunger driving him beyond his master's control much of the time. Hunting down mortals and drinking them dry. He was so powerful that when an unfortunate undead hunter came along, they stood zero chance of even slowing him down, and became his next meal.
He did cross paths with Macao again, many years and campaigns later. Macao, now much more powerful than he had been, could have easily crushed him, but upon seeing him took pity on him. Lathian, obsessed with finishing Macao, fought valiantly, but in the end, Macao merely brushed him aside as if Lathian were a child.
Lathian is free of his vampire master now, and roams the world, still hunting Macao. But he will never possess the power to be able to defeat him. His hope is to find him unguarded, unaware, and spent after a battle.
