"A wizard who turned to thieving to pay for his schooling, until a scam with a fake thieves' guild set him on the run."
Core biographical details.
The road from apprentice to arcane burglar.
Bob Ravenson never came from money. What arcane schooling he has was paid for the only way he knew how, picking locks and lifting purses between lessons, treating the trade as a practical elective the academy never offered. For years the arrangement worked: study by day, thieve by night, and never let either half know too much about the other.
It was a job gone wrong, a supposed contract brokered through what turned out to be a fake thieves' guild, that ended the double life for good. The "guild" was a front, the score was a setup, and Bob came out the other side with a target on his back and no city left he could safely call home. He's been moving ever since, spellbook in one pack and thieving tools in the other, with a bonded shadow mastiff at his heel as the only companion he still fully trusts.
Whatever warmth the arrangement once had has long since curdled into something colder and more transactional. Bob doesn't work with people anymore so much as he works around them.
The Shadow Mastiff bonded to him since his first year of study.

An extraplanar hound bonded through Bob's Improved Familiar feat at 1st level. It shadow-blends to near invisibility outside full daylight, delivers Bob's touch spells, and shares his empathic link, the one creature on this road that has never once tried to rob him.
