Lore

Knight, advisor, and the fastest thing most people will ever fail to see coming.

Sir Quith Abinor carries his weight in titles the way other men carry armor: Knight Lagr of the 2nd Column, of the Abinor Line, of the Rock Basher Family of the Cutten House. He serves as Empower to the Menboko Emperor Faderweorg and as High Advisor to King Bartok of Kastania, two courts, two crowns, one man who is rarely in the room by the time either finishes making a decision about him.

A Divine Messenger

Quith walks a path most rogues never touch: he serves the Gods of Antiquity directly as a Divine Messenger, carrying their word and, when called on, their judgment. It sits uneasily alongside his other trade, the tools of a thief turned toward the business of kings and gods alike.

The Hunt for Vampires

His father was killed by a vampire, and that loss is the one thread of Quith's story that never gets tucked away with the rest of his business. Foresight, his silver soulbound shortsword, exists for exactly this purpose and answers to no hand but his, the blade is locked to the Abinor bloodline.

What They Talk Aboutthe moment before they realize what happened

Those who've seen Quith work don't describe a fight so much as an absence. He is there, and then the outcome has already happened, and the space in between is one nobody else occupied fast enough to witness. He does not linger. He does not brawl. He arrives at exactly the range a blade needs to be at, closes the distance before an opponent's guard has finished registering the threat, and is already leaving before the first drop of blood hits the floor.

His feints are said to work on men who have trained their whole lives to never be feinted, because by the time they realize the opening was false, Tashanna has already found the gap. Rumor holds that he's stolen a signet ring off a sitting duke's hand mid-conversation and returned it before the duke noticed it was gone, purely to prove a point to a companion who doubted him.

Vampires are spoken of differently in his presence. Where Quith hunts them, word travels ahead of him. Not as a warning to the vampire, who rarely gets one, but as a kind of grim comfort to whatever town has been suffering. Foresight does not miss twice.

At court, in Kastania and in Menboko both, he is treated as a man who already knows what you're about to say. Not through any magic of persuasion, but because he reads a room the way most people read a book they've read before. Advisors twice his apparent age defer to him, and no one has quite worked out why a rogue holds the ear of both an emperor and a king, except that both of them have learned it's better to have him as a friend than to find out what he is as an enemy.
